Ashada masam is known as the Shunya masam (which means null month) and many auspicious occasions like marriages, gruhapravesam (house warming ceremony), house beginning (Sankusthapana), thread wearing ceremony (odugu) etc are mainly postponed during this month.

Telugu Ashada Masam 2017 Dates
Ashadam starts from June 22nd and ends july 22nd in 2016. Toli Ekadasi is the name given to the Ekadashi observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Ashada or Ashara Masam (June – July) in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and by Telugu speaking community around the world. In 2017, Toli Ekadashi date in Telugu calendar is July 4. This Ekadashi is also known as Deva Shayani Ekadasi or Hari Sayani Ekadashi and the Chatur Mas Vrat (four holy months in Hinduism) begins from the day. The night time of Devas begins on this day and it believed that Lord Vishnu goes to sleep from the day.

Why is newly wed daughter-in-law and mother-in-law do not stay together during Ashadam or the newly wed couple do not stay together?

The Hindu Astrology comes with a scientific reason behind the couple staying away in Ashada month. As the Ashada masam comes in June-July, if the couple have sexual interaction, there is a chance of delivering the baby in very hot summer which is difficult for both the baby and the mother to have health issues, so to avoid this, our tradition tells us to part the newly wed couples in this month.
Mehendi in Ashada Masam
Want to know why mehendi is applied in ashada masam, then check out here. Mehendi is thought to be a good fortune for ladies and so everyone is interested to put rangoli for their hands. For unmarried girls, it is expected that they will get good husbands in the future.
What is the reason behind applying rangoli (henna) on hands and feet in Ashadam month?
People of many places in India apply mehendi designs on hands and feet during the Ashadam month. The reason behind applying mehendi design is to get rid of the effects of the climatic changes which occur in this month (June-July).
Mehendi leaves start growing at this time and it has properties to prevent infections that cause due to drastic climatic change from extreme hot to cold. Even though it is inauspicious for auspicious programs, this month is good for Vratas and Pujas.
Rath Yatra in Puri Jagannath temple and Palki Yatra in Pandharpur Vitthal Temple are celebrated in this month only. Chaturmas Vrat also begins in this month. Tholi Ekadasi comes in this month.
Goddess Durga, Mahishasura Mardhini, Varaha Murthy, Narasimha Swamy, Lord Bhairava, Saptamatruka Shakti goddess etc should be worshipped in this month as Dakshinaya period starts in this month.

Scientific Reason:

As this will be the hottest period in India and it will not be suitable for the health of the
mother and child. Today, with modern medical facilities this particular custom is not strictly followed.
In ancient times, in Ashada Masam, newly married couples were not allowed to stay together in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This was because if the woman conceived in Ashada Masam , then she will be giving birth in March or April or May the hottest months in South India. This is the hottest period in India and it is not suitable for the health of the mother and child. Since in ancient times there were no immediate medical facility, elders asked couples to stay apart. The prime reason was that sometimes it was not possible to contain bleeding in hot months.

There are also many who believe that the daughter-in-law and the mother-in-law should not stay together in this month. There is no astrological significance to this and there is nothing to fear. And astrology should not be the guide in deciding on crucial matters relating to relationships.

 Significance:

Full Moon day in Aashaada masam known as Guru Pournima is celebrated across the country, symbolically honouring the Gurus and teachers who have taught us the Vidya.  This day is also popularly referred to as Vyaasa Poornima associated with Lord Veda Vyaasa, the Divine Literary incarnation of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. It is believed that Sri Veda Vyasa was born on this day of Pournami in the Lunar month of Aashaada.  It is also said that it is the day on which Sri Veda Vyasa commenced his work on Brahma Sutras.  Though Chaturmasam starts from Sayani Ekadasi for general public, traditionally, Ascetics start their Chaturmasa Deeksha from this day of Guru Pournima in Aashaada masam.

Dude/dudette, don't be so coy. Nothing wrong with saying 'condom' - say contraceptives if you are so embarrassed. Couple can also 'couple' ;) in these months since we have medical facilities now.
